Black Church Week of Prayer of the Healing of AIDS

Emory Grove UMC along with thousands of churches across the country will join The Balm In Gilead and its esteemed platform of religious and political leaders to mobilize the Black community in the fight against HIV/AIDS during the 19th annual Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS, March 2-8, 2008. The week-long event, oldest and largest AIDS awareness program targeting the Black faith community, mobilizes thousands of faith institutions and millions of church goers to champion AIDS education, testing and compassionate care in the African American community.  At Emory Grove the schedule is as follows:

• March 6, 7:00 PM:  Special Bible Study on "Loving The Other."

• March 7, 7:00 PM:  Prayer and Healing Service.  Pastor Courtaney Miller, Norbeck Community Church, Silver Spring, guest preacher.

• March 8, 11:00 - 2:00 PM:  Luncheon with guest speakers.

 

Lenten Bible Study Schedule

Please mark your calendars now!  In order to accommodate the Lenten Worship Service for 2008 Bible Study will be held on the Thursday evenings during Lent.  Dates and times will be as follows:

• Thursday, February 7

• Thursday, February 21

• Thursday, February 28

• Thursday, March 6

• Thursday, March 13

We will resume our regular study night on Wednesday, March 19.

3rd Annual Mike Tyler Scholarship 5k Walk/Run

Saturday, April 12 at 9:00 AM

The Mike Tyler 5K Walk/Run was established in honor of Watkins Mill High School Student Mike Tyler (son of Byron Tyler) who tragically passed away in 2007 as the result of an injury suffered during a wrestling match.  All proceeds from this event go to the Mike Tyler Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to four seniors each year.  To register for the run, please see EGUMC member, Bryon Tyler or to download, please click on this link:  REGISTRATION.
